Specimen Required
Both plasma and RBCs are required for testing.
Specimen Type: Packed RBCs and Plasma
Container/Tube: Royal blue-top (EDTA metal-free tube; metal-free transfer tubes
Specimen Volume: 3 mL each of plasma and packed RBCs
Collection Instructions:Â Both packed cells and plasma are required. Plasma and red cells must be separated ASAP and shipped separately. Failure to separate may cause rejection due to hemolysis of red cells and contamination of the plasma. Transfer RBCs and plasma into separate plastic, acid-washed, trace metal-free tubes. Ship refrigerated.
NOTE:Â Specimen must be received at the testing facility within five days of collection.
